Everything You Need to Know About Psycho Dead Before Its Launch

The survival horror genre is going through a massive resurgence, but finding an indie title that brings genuinely fresh mechanics to the table can feel rare. Enter Psycho Dead, an upcoming third-person sci-fi survival horror game developed by MOON CATALYST.

Stepping away from the traditional “run and hide” formula, Psycho Dead gives players a lethal edge that completely changes the dynamic of survival. Here is everything you need to know about this claustrophobic nightmare.

The Premise: A Lab Run Destructive

In Psycho Dead, players step into the shoes of Elixia, a mysterious young girl trapped inside a sterile, clinical research facility where an experiment has gone catastrophically wrong. The corridors are now overrun by grotesque, mutated creatures and relentless, unyielding Stalkers designed specifically to hunt you down.

While the setting captures the absolute best of classic Resident Evil or Dead Space laboratory dread, the narrative focus centers heavily on Elixia’s hidden past—and the supernatural gift that serves as her only way out.

Mechanics: The Power of the Mind

What immediately sets Psycho Dead apart from its peers is the implementation of Psychic Powers. Rather than relying solely on scavenged firearms, Elixia turns the environment itself into a weapon. The core toolkit includes:

  • Psychokinesis: Dynamically pulling objects close or hurling them at high speed to stagger incoming threats.
  • Shock Shot: Discharging a concentrated kinetic blast capable of dropping monsters in their tracks.
  • Crush: A terrifying offensive ability that continuously compresses a target until it implodes.
  • Barrier: Deploying a kinetic shield to deflect frontal assaults.

This creates an entirely new rhythm for survival horror. You aren’t completely helpless, but your powers require tactical precision, forcing a constant, tense balance between aggression, resource management, and stealth.

Classic Roots, Modern Polish

Despite the supernatural combat, Psycho Dead remains deeply loyal to the golden rules of survival horror. The gameplay structure relies heavily on:

  • Resource Scarcity: Managing your power levels and health carefully.
  • Backtracking & Puzzles: Navigating the shifting, interconnected layouts of the sci-fi facility.
  • High Replayability: A built-in ranking system and multiple difficulty modes designed to challenge hardcore genre fans.
  • Developer: MOON CATALYST CO., LTD.
  • Platforms: PC Steam
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
  • Resolution: Native 4K
  • Settings: Max/Ultra
  • Release Date: 2026

XLN Take:

After spending time with the Steam demo, Psycho Dead shows promise, but it definitely has some rough edges that need smoothing out before launch. On the technical side, the performance is stellar running flawlessly at Max Settings at 4K with excellent optimization. Visually, the dark, clinical lab setting looks great, even if the demo keeps its cards close to its chest regarding the actual story, only giving us the bare baseline that you play as Elixia roaming the facility with monsters.

The gameplay itself feels decent, but the movement mechanics currently create a jarring pacing issue. While getting around generally feels good, there are frustrating moments when trying to escape monsters where Elixia simply cannot run or move fast enough to get away. In a survival horror game that relies on active combat and dodging, lacking a reliable sprint or escape mechanic can make encounters feel clunky rather than tense.

If MOON CATALYST can tweak the movement speed and balance the enemy tracking before the final release, the psychic combat loop could be a lot of fun. For now, it’s a technically solid demo that just needs a bit of mechanical fine tuning.
