Ubisoft has officially lifted the veil on the “Resynced” project, a ground-up remake of the 2013 pirate classic. Launching July 9, 2026, the title is being rebuilt in the latest Anvil engine (the same one powering AC Shadows), bringing Edward Kenway’s Caribbean into the modern era with ray-traced lighting and reworked water physics.

What’s Being Restored (The Good):

  • Parry-Driven Combat: The “counter-kill” system is gone, replaced by faster, rhythm-based parrying and chained takedowns.
  • True Stealth: For the first time, Edward can crouch anywhere, and the infamous “Tailing Missions” have been overhauled to no longer auto-fail if you’re spotted.
  • The Jackdaw 2.0: New recruitable officers (with their own loyalty missions), upgradeable ship perks, and the addition of pet monkeys or cats for the deck.
  • New Narrative: Returning writer Darby McDevitt has added new scenes with Edward’s wife, Caroline, and expanded stories for Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet.

What’s Been Scrubbed (The Controversial):

  • Multiplayer Deleted: The original cat-and-mouse multiplayer mode has been removed to focus entirely on the single-player experience.
  • Modern Day Reworked: You won’t be wandering around the Abstergo offices anymore; the modern-day elements have been condensed into “Animus rifts” focused on Edward’s internal struggle.
  • No Freedom Cry: The Adéwalé DLC is not included in this package, as the focus remains strictly on Kenway’s journey.
