Nearly six years after Unreal Engine 5‘s debut, the next version of Epic Games’ engine was unveiled at the Rocket League Championship Series 2026: Paris Major. Surprisingly named Unreal Engine 6, it will be integrated into Psyonix’s free-to-play vehicular sports game.
Featuring real-time, in-game footage, a short new trailer has revealed substantial enhancements to Rocket League’s visual fidelity, including improved reflections, lighting, effects, and foliage. Though the footage did not depict an active match or provide a release window, it marks a significant technological jump for the title, which has utilized Unreal Engine 3 since launch.

Epic Games is expected to transition its major franchises—such as Fortnite and LEGO Fortnite—to Unreal Engine 6 in the future. CEO Tim Sweeney described the upcoming engine as a “nexus point” that will unify the Unreal Editor for Fortnite with the primary engine ecosystem. While the long-term impact on Creator Made Experiences remains uncertain, Sweeney indicated that preview versions of Unreal Engine 6 are targeted for a 2027 or 2028 window. That said, the impressive quality of this latest teaser suggests progress might be ahead of schedule.
