To escape the Rhodes Hill Care Center as Grace Ashcroft, you must collect three hidden gems to unlock the central courtyard door. Two of these gems are locked inside intricate mechanical puzzle boxes hidden in the executive offices.
If you are stuck trying to figure out the right combination of symbols, here are the exact solutions for both the Moon and Sun Quartz boxes.
1. The Chairman’s Office Puzzle Box (Moon Quartz)
The first puzzle box is located on the second floor (2F) of the West Wing inside the Chairman’s Office.
- How to find the clue naturally: If you go to the desk at the back of the room, you can pick up a Pencil. Bring it back to the lounge table and use it on the blank notepad to shade over the paper, revealing the hidden graphite message left behind.
- The Solution: Interact with the box and press the buttons in this exact order:Moon ➔ Sun ➔ Star ➔ Moon
Opening this box rewards you with the Moon Quartz and the Unicorn Trinket Box (which contains a Red Jewel used to unlock the Parlor down the hall).
2. The Lead Researcher’s Office Puzzle Box (Sun Quartz)
The second puzzle box is located on the second floor (2F) of the East Wing inside the Lead Researcher’s Office.
- How to remove the padlock: Before you can press any buttons, you’ll notice the dials are sealed by a heavy padlock. You must fetch the Corrosive liquid from the nearby Conference Room (watch out for the screaming Singer infected in there!) and use it to melt the lock away.
- The Solution: Once the buttons are exposed, look at the background of the photographs scattered around the room to piece the code together. The exact order is:Star ➔ Sun ➔ Moon ➔ Sun
Opening this box rewards you with the Sun Quartz and a Leatherbound Notebook, which gives you the necessary hints to crack the Organ Transport Box later in the chapter.
Pro-Tip for the Third Gem
Once you have both of these, the final Star Quartz box is located in the Security Manager’s Office. However, the dials are worn down with Braille. You will need to upgrade your security clearance to Level 3, unlock the Medication Room, and escort the blind girl, Emily, to the office so she can read the box for you while you defend her from waves of Blisterheads!
